Woman taken to hospital after three car crash in Astley Bridge

A woman has been taken to hospital following a crash involving three cars on a main road in Astley Bridge yesterday evening, December 30.
Greater Manchester Police, fire crews and the North West Ambulance Service were called to the collision at the junction of Waters Meeting Road and Blackburn Road at around 8.30pm.
Three fire engines from Bolton[1] North, Bolton Central and Farnworth fire stations, along with the technical response unit from Leigh, were mobilised to the incident.
Firefighters used specialist equipment to cut a woman free from one of the vehicles.
She was transferred to the care of paramedics from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and then taken to hospital.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 8.30pm on Saturday 30 December, fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Blackburn Road, Bolton.
“Three fire engines from Bolton North, Bolton Central and Farnworth[2] fire stations, along with the technical response unit from Leigh, were mobilised to the incident. The collision involved three cars.
“Firefighters used specialist equipment to extricate a woman from one of the vehicles. She was transferred to the care of paramedics from North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) and then taken to hospital.
“A man, who was out of his vehicle prior to the arrival of emergency services, was treated at the scene by a GMFRS trauma technician.
“Firefighters helped make the area safe before handing the scene over to police. GMFRS crews were in attendance for about an hour.”
Watch Manager McGann at Bolton North Fire Station said: “At 8.30pm last night, December 30, three fire appliances and a technical response unit from Leigh travelled to the junction of Waters Meeting Road and Blackburn Road, Bolton, for a road traffic collision.

“A driver of one the vehicles managed to get out of the car prior to our arrival and the driver of the other vehicle required extrication by the fire service.
“We were in attendance for approximately 45 minutes and the road was closed by the police for a period of that time and vehicles were removed to the side of the road.
“One person was being assessed by the North West Ambulance Service when we left the scene.”
