Weather warnings issued for Christmas Eve as heavy rain expected for Cheshire

Weather warnings for wind and rain have been issued for Christmas Eve. Warnings for wind cover eastern edges of the county, and come at the same time as warnings for rain in North Wales.

The Met Office warns of, “Strong, very gusty winds” that may “cause some travel disruption” during Christmas Eve. The warning comes into force at 8am on December 24, lasting until 10pm.

The national weather agency warns of a slight chance of damage to some buildings, including tiles blown from roofs, and some trees being brought down. There is also a chance of power cuts and mobile phone service outages, the Met Office warns.

There are also cancellations expected to road, rail, air and ferry services, with some roads and bridges closed. There will also be a chance of injuries from flying debris.

The rain warning, covering North and mid Wales, becomes active at 10pm December 23 and will remain in place until 6pm Christmas Eve. The Met Office warns of flooding to a few homes and businesses, interruption to power supplies and other services, delays to bus and train services, and disruption on the roads.

Rain is expected across most of Cheshire on Saturday evening (December 23) from around 8am to midnight, becoming heavy at times. Rain will be heavier and more sustained in northern and eastern parts of the county, including Macclesfield[3] and Warrington[4], with rain persisting until late afternoon on Christmas Eve.

There will be light rain and overcast weather on Christmas Eve in western and southern parts of the county, with heavy rain arriving again mid-afternoon Christmas Day, the Met Office predicts. Temperatures will be unseasonably mild across the county on Christmas Eve, with 13°C in Chester[5] predicted for most of the day, and 12°C in Macclesfield.

Temperatures are expected to hover 8°C, 9°C and 10°C on the December 23 and 25, before dropping as low as 4°C on Boxing Day night.
