Warrington one of 10 busiest areas in the UK for traffic

Researchers have examined daily traffic flow across the country, with Warrington featuring in the top ten local authorities in the UK for this metric.

The study looked at traffic levels across England, Wales, and Scotland, then divided this by the length of roads.

According to this data, in which government data was compared to road length by Claims.co.uk, Warrington is the third worst in the north.

Of the top ten busiest areas for traffic in the country, only Salford and Knowsley were worse off north of the Watford gap.

According to the research ‘The results were based on the average total over a full year of the number of vehicles passing a point in the road network of that area each day.’

Unsurprisingly, the number one ranked local authority was in London, with Hounslow in west London topping the list.

Hounslow had the highest daily traffic flow, with an average of 8,835 vehicles each day. This is in large part due to the stretches of road surrounding the Heathrow Airport, containing both the M4 corridor and M25 motorway.

Despite this, Warrington only had just over 1000 less per day than Hounslow, with a daily average of 7,453 car passing through the town.
