Van hits three people in Midlands town centre prompting murder arrest
A serious collision[1] in a Midlands town centre has resulted in the death of a man, with police making a murder[2] arrest. A total of three people were hit by a van following the incident in the early hours of today, Saturday, December 16.
The collision took place in Market Place, Ilkeston, in Derbyshire, with the county’s police forced called to the scene just before 2.10am today. Police received reports that a number of people had been hit by a van, reports NottinghamshireLive.[3]
One man died at the scene after sustaining serious injuries. Meanwhile, two other people were hospitalised and treated for injuries not believed to be serious.
A man who was believed to have been driving[6] the van has been arrested on suspicion of murder[7] and remains in custody today, December 16. The scene in Market Place will be closed for some time, police have announced, as enquiries[8] continue to be carried out by officers.
A spokesperson for Derbyshire Police said: “Market Place will continue to be closed for some time while officers carry out enquiries, and we would like to hear from any witnesses. At this time, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident, and do not believe it is terrorism related.”
