Tyson Boardman: Young motorcyclist is killed in horrific crash as his mother flies across the country to bury

A motorcyclist tragically killed on Boxing Day has been remembered as a ‘hardworking’ young man as his mother flies to Western Australia [2] to be by his side.

Tyson Boardman, 21, was riding his Honda motorcycle at the intersection of Central Avenue in Casuarina, south of Perth, about 2.30am when he lost control of the bike.

His devastated mother Toni Ballantyne wrote a heartfelt tribute to her son earlier in the week, admitting it was something she never imagined putting her name to.

‘In the early hours of Boxing Day we lost our beautiful boy in a tragic accident,’ she wrote on Facebook[3].

‘Stuart, Christian, Mackenzie and I lost our son and brother, not to mention the pain his Nanas and Poppy, aunties, uncles and cousins are going through too. Our hearts and souls are broken.

‘My Dad and I are flying to Perth on Friday. Once we know all the details we will update you on what will be planned to celebrate our gorgeous boys life.

‘I love you Tyson, you’ll always be my baby boy. Please hold your loved ones extra close tonight.’

Mr Boardman worked night shift at SCT Logistics in Forrestfield, a transport service that loads trains with freight to be distributed across Australia.

Mr Boardman’s father, Stuart, has worked for the same company for over a decade.

The company has launched a GoFundMe[4], which as of Sunday had raised more than $5,500, with proceeds going to assist the grieving family.

Colleague Ian Ross said Mr Boardman was a ‘hard worker’ who had helped ‘boost morale’ at his workplace and that he was ‘devastated’ by his passing.

‘A few of the boys and I took him under our wings, trained him and showed him how to do things,’ Mr Ross told the West Australian[5].

‘He was one of the brothers, one of the boys…. you could always count on him to give you a laugh’.

Mr Ross hopes the GoFundMe will help raise funds to help ease the burden on the family.

‘Tyson and his family are amazing people, this is the last thing they would have wanted the day after Christmas,’ he said.

‘This isn’t my way, but SCT’s way, to show we care for them and love them…. we want to show Tyson and Stuart that we all love them.’

‘His mum is absolutely shattered and his dad is in the exact same boat…. Tyson pretty much considered his dad his hero.’

The online fundraiser has attracted tributes to the beloved young man.

Mr Boardman’s aunty Nicky Ballantyne also expressed her sorrow, saying she was grateful for a call from her nephew on Christmas night, just hours before his death.

‘To lose a child is devastating, even more so over Christmas,’ she wrote.

‘Our family will forever be broken. Thank you for the video call Xmas night. I will cherish that memory for the rest of my life.’

Mr Boardman’s stepfather Christian Sieg described his stepson as a ‘caring soul’ who tried to make a difference in the world.

‘The sun has set on a life yesterday and I’m immensely sad,’ he said.

‘I was fortunate enough to be part of his life for 15 years and see him growing up into a young man from five years old onwards.’

‘A genuine, caring soul, a deep thinker and wise beyond his years. A deep understanding of his beliefs and trying to make a difference.’

As of Sunday morning there had been nine deaths on Western Australian roads since Christmas Day.

An elderly woman died after her car veered off the road on Saturday about 10.20am and a 61-year-old woman died in Brabham when her Ford Falcon utility swerved off Fairmount Boulevard and crashed into a fence.

A 20-year-old motorcyclist on Friday night was killed after a Toyota Landcruiser hit him while parked in the emergency lane on Forrest Highway, West Coolup.

On Christmas night, a 27-year-old man died when his red Kawasaki motorcycle crashed with a Toyota HiLux on Stirling Highway, North Fremantle.

Police are investigating the series of fatal incidents and have encouraged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
