Truck crashes into bollards on A4055 Cardiff Barry Road

The incident happened on the A4055 Cardiff to Barry Road outside the Merrie Harrier Hotel.

Police were called to the scene at just after 11am today, December 12.

Photos show a dumper truck with its back wheels up in the air over the bollards.

The bollards in question are mounted on an island in the middle of the intersection between the A4055 and the B4267 – something that infuriates one local businessman.

Jeff Tree, of Penarth Marina, used to run City Centre Ticket Line as well as taxi and coach firms, and he says in one case with a bollard (not the bollards in question) one of his taxi drivers could have been seriously injured when swerving to avoid a horse in Penarth and crashing into bollards.

“They are stupidly dangerous,” said Mr Tree.

“What concerns me is there are six keep left bollards on Penarth Road from Cogan junction to Hatfield Road and three of those aren’t even illuminated.”

Police confirmed they attended the scene where the truck crashed into the bollards today.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “We were called at 11.15am this morning with a report that the driver of a lorry had knocked out the traffic lights on Penlan Road, Llandough, Penarth.

“It is not believed that anyone was injured.”
