Tragedy as pensioner, 80, dies at scene of lorry crash on A1 near Berwick
A pensioner has tragically died following a crash between a car and lorry on the A1.
Emergency services were called to the A1 south of Burnmouth - close to the Scotland-England border - on Saturday at around 9.15am[1] after a grey Vauxhall Viva and white MAN articulated lorry collided.
An 80-year-old woman, who was driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the lorry was not injured.
The road was closed for a number of hours, with a diversion in place, before re-opening around 2.45pm.
Fire crews from Berwick Community Fire Station, and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews from Duns Community Fire Station and Dunbar were in attendance.
Sergeant Colin Morrison said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who died at this time.
“Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who was in the area at the time and has information that could assist to get in touch.
“In particular, if you have dash-cam footage that could assist with our investigation then please contact officers.”
Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1124 of Saturday, 16 December, 2023.
