These are the faces of 505 Merseyside criminals who were jailed …
Hundreds of criminals appeared before the law courts again this year.
Some of the highest profile trials in Merseyside’s history were heard during 2023. These saw the killers of Olivia Pratt-Korbel[1], Elle Edwards[2] and Ashley Dale[3] brought to justice.
But Liverpool Crown Court, Liverpool Magistrates’ Court, Sefton Magistrates’ Court and Wirral Magistrates’ Court remained as busy as ever with all manner of cases. These are the faces of 505 Merseyside criminals who were jailed over the past 12 months.
Andrew Stinchcomb

A beloved dad screamed “oh my god” as a BMW veered into his path seconds before he was killed in a head-on crash.
William Ludlow was critically injured when drink driver Andrew Stinchcomb smashed into his car at speed. The “well-loved family man” died in hospital two days later.
The killer motorist was still more than double the limit when tested six hours after the smash. He was jailed for 56 months after admitting causing death by careless driving.

A paedophile sexually abused a girl after grooming her with fizzy drinks and Timberland boots.
Kevin King’s victim was left feeling “trapped” after being subjected to years of sickening assaults at his hands. In spite of this, he continued to plead his innocence.
King was unanimously found guilty of six counts of sexual activity with a child, two of causing a child to engage in sexual activity and two charges of causing a child to watch sexual activity by a jury following a trial. He was jailed for eight years, as well as being handed a lifelong notification requirement and a restraining order preventing him from contacting his victim for 10 years.

A man who leapt the dock and escaped court said he “almost could not believe no one was following him.”
Nicholas Bunclark[6] was jailed for 16 months after being convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but vaulted a gate out of an unsecured dock at Liverpool Crown Court[7] then went on the run. But the 30-year-old handed himself in the following day and was hauled back to court again, pleading guilty to escaping from lawful custody and being handed a further four months.

A fraudster attempted to take driving theory tests while pretending to be other men after being promised cash and clothes.
Thanh Nguyen was recruited to take part in the scam after fleeing loan sharks, who had trafficked him to the UK from Vietnam in order to work in a drugs farm. Nguyen admitted four counts of fraud and was jailed for a year.
Callum Boscoe

Callum Boscoe was jailed for four years after a spree of 30 burglaries, attempted burglaries and thefts in the space of a month.

A woman who murdered her “drinking partner” by beating him with a bat and pushing him down a flight of stairs was jailed for life with a minimum term of 18 years.
Cheryl O’Callaghan was unanimously found guilty of the murder of Adrian Swift by a jury at Liverpool Crown Court. The 57-year-old victim told a 999 call that he had been “battered s***less” at their home on Bishopsgate Street in Wavertree[8] before his death.
Alex Leach KC, prosecuting, told jurors he had been living at the address with O’Callaghan, her boyfriend Steven Hardaker and a fourth housemate, Adam Oldland. On March 23 2021, the day before his death, he was taken to hospital after a 999 call in which he told the operator he had been “battered s***less”.

Mr Swift also stated to paramedics that 46-year-old O’Callaghan, of Stanton Crescent in Kirkby[9], had beaten him with a bat and pushed him down a flight of stairs. The following morning, he discharged himself and returned to the property despite sustaining “serious facial and bodily injuries”.
Three hours later, 51-year-old Oldland – of Sunnyside, Sefton[10] Park – alerted the emergency services to Mr Swift’s death. O’Callaghan claimed that she had only become aware that Mr Swift was injured the previous day when the ambulance arrived at the property.

Describing herself as a “functioning alcoholic”, she said on the witness box that she had spent the day listening to music on her headphones in the living room with the door closed. Mr Swift subsequently told doctors he had “been assaulted by his housemate” and recalled waking on the floor with his injuries.
But, shortly before 8.30am on March 24, the musician discharged himself and took a taxi back to Bishopsgate Street. He died at around 11.30am the same day as a result of his injuries.
Hardaker, also 51 and of Aigburth[11] Drive in Sefton Park[12], and Oldland both admitted perverting the course of justice after giving a false account to emergency services that Mr Swift had sustained his injuries during a fall and then drowned in the bath. They were locked up for 25 months each.

A cocaine and cannabis kingpin who fled to Spain had a network of drug runners across the UK on his payroll while posing as a dog-breeder.
St Helens[13]-based Jamie Walsh, 37, was described as the organiser of a sophisticated conspiracy supplying multi kilos of drugs between Liverpool and Cornwall, Cumbria and Scotland. He employed Matthew Lee to traffic drugs across the country via the motorways and railway networks.

After being extradited from Spain, Walsh admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine and cannabis and was jailed for 11 years and 11 months. Lee admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine and was given four years.
Michael Sadler

A violent alcoholic strangled a police officer until he could not breathe.
Michael Sadler, of the Calvers in Runcorn, then bit another PC. The 39-year-old was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to strangulation and four counts of assaulting an emergency service worker.
Malcolm Lewis

A thief admitted he was “out of order” after attacking a Tesco[14] security guard with a machete.
Malcolm Lewis hit the worker in the eye with the “fearsome” weapon after he foiled his shoplifting attempts. The 52-year-old pleaded guilty to theft, making threats with an offensive weapon and assault and was jailed for 20 months.

A paedophile was arrested in B&Q.
Mykal Owoo was found with 22 indecent images of children on his phone after being detained in the store in Speke[15] where he worked, but showed no “genuine remorse” for his actions. He was jailed for a year.
Jamie Dugdale

A heroin dealer’s dad flushed his son’s drugs down the toilet after seeing him get arrested.
Jamie Dugdale admitted possession of heroin with intent to supply. He was jailed for three years.
Rio Jones

A teenager was jailed for life after shooting a 15-year-old girl in the neck as she waited for a bus home from school.
The innocent schoolgirl was caught in the crossfire after Rio Jones discharged six gunshots at a rival as he pursued him through the streets of Toxteth[16] on an electric bike in March 2022. The 19-year-old was found guilty of attempting to murder the target, Shakur Watson, and inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent by a jury following a trial.
He also admitted possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Jones showed no emotion as he was imprisoned for life with a minimum term of 16-and-a-half years.
Megan Woodham, Daniel Doran and Kelsey Higgins

A member of staff at a prison smuggled ketamine into the jail where she worked as a healthcare assistant.
Megan Woodham used her job to conceal the shipments of drugs, which she then handed over to inmate Daniel Doran. She also used her home as the “safehouse” for a wider ring involved in the supply of millions of pounds of cocaine, members of which were handed lengthy spells behind bars.

A trial heard that Doran, of Hall Lane in Kirkby, was a serving prisoner at HMP Risley in Warrington[17] between December 2021 and February 2022, with Woodham having been employed as a health worker in the jail. David Watson, prosecuting, described how they – together with co-defendant Kelsey Higgins – were “involved in the supply of a very large quantity of high purity cocaine”.

Doran was found guilty of conspiracy to supply cocaine but admitted conspiracy to supply ketamine and was jailed for 15 years. Higgins was convicted of conspiracy to supply cocaine by a jury and was handed 13-and-a-half years.
Woodham was found guilty of conspiracy to supply cocaine and ketamine and was jailed for six years.
Sean Fagan

A thief weaved in and out of traffic on the East Lancs in a stolen Audi A6 in a desperate bid to escape police.
Sean Fagan then attempted to flee on foot, but was detained after a chase. He was jailed for nine months for aggravated vehicle taking and driving while disqualified.
James Ashton

A drug dealer asked “is that all?” after being jailed for breaking a man’s jaw during a “straightener” at a pub.
James Ashton repeatedly punched a man in the face and threw a chair at him after a dispute arose between the two over an alleged stolen sum of money. He admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was imprisoned for seven months, after which he was heard to say: “Is that all?
Paula Higham

A woman threatened to kill her former partner despite already being banned from contacting him.
Paula Higham also issued threats towards her ex’s mum, calling her “rough” before adding “she will be looking worse soon”. She was jailed for eight months.
Jason Revill

A heroin and cocaine dealer who used the pseudonym “Bald Bonsai” on EncroChat gave a judge the thumbs up after he was jailed for 15-and-a-half years
Jason Revill admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine and heroin, possession of heroin with into to supply and possession of criminal property. He smiled and said “thank you very much your honour” as he gave a thumbs up to the judge upon learning his sentence.
Colin Shannon

A man said “oo, that hurt” after being stabbed in the chest outside a pub by a barred customer.
Colin Shannon shouted “have some of that” as he knifed his victim at the Ship Hotel in New Brighton[18]. He admitted wounding with intent and possession of a bladed article in a public place and was jailed for four-and-a-half years.
Dean Newland

A sex offender who attacked and threatened two Wetherspoons workers while drunk was jailed.
Dean Newland appeared before the courts for three counts of assault following an incident in the Richard John Blackler branch of JD Wetherspoon on Great Charlotte Street, Liverpool city centre[19], and one count of failing to comply with sex offenders’ register notification requirements. He was jailed for 36 weeks.
Billy Rutter

A rapist who decapitated and cooked his son’s rabbit armed himself with a broken glass bottle during a fight on a night out.
Billy Rutter was previously jailed for a sickening sexual assault on a schoolgirl and was most recently locked up after killing the pet, throwing its severed head at his ex-girlfriend and roasting it in the oven. He was then put behind bars again after police spotted him arming himself amid an altercation outside a Revolution bar in Liverpool city centre.
The 35-year-old admitted possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Rutter was jailed for eight months.

The prolific burglar was linked to unsolved crimes using DNA analysis and handed 25 months.
Daniel Dolan

A man punched his girlfriend so hard he left her with injuries normally only seen in car crash victims.
Daniel Dolan admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm. He was jailed for 40 months.
Stephen Hone

A drug dealer who tried to evade police in a high speed car chase almost hit a small child.
Stephen Hone was convicted of dangerous driving and possession with intent to supply cocaine. He was jailed for 32 months.
David O’Brien

A man said “I don’t like bullies” as he was jailed for life for attempted murder.
David O’Brien attacked a fellow patient at Ashworth Hospital with a metal bar as they worked out in the facility’s gym, striking him twice over the head with the makeshift weapon. Afterwards, he told doctors he “had been hearing voices in his head telling him to kill his victim” who he wanted to “stab in the eyes”.
The 45-year-old admitted attempted murder. O’Brien was handed a lifetime imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years and seven months.

A shop worker sexually assaulted a girl wearing her school uniform inside the convenience store where he worked on her 16th birthday.
Ahmed Khalio was found guilty of four counts of sexual assault following a trial. He was jailed for six months.

A former martial arts teacher confessed to being “sexually attracted” to indecent images of children after he was arrested.
Michael Southern received 28 months for distributing indecent images.
Joseph Shaw

A support worker tied a severely disabled woman to his bed before filming them engaging in sexual activity.
Armed forces veteran Joseph Shaw admitted sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder impeding choice. He was handed a seven year and eight month prison sentence.

A man who was found in a property with five separate rooms used for growing cannabis claimed he only worked there because of threats to his family.
Adrian Voci admitted production of cannabis. He was handed 51 weeks.

A paedophile spent hours alone with children after not telling their mum about his dark past.
Michael Longbottom, 28, was jailed for 28 months for breaching sexual harm prevention and notification orders.
Craig Carter

An “aggrieved” paedophile claimed he was trying to trick hunters after being caught in a sting for a second time.
Craig Carter was found guilty of attempting sexual communications with a child, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity and arranging the commission of a child sex offence. The “manipulative and predatory” sex offender told a judge “that’s ridiculous” after he was jailed for seven-and-half years.

A man who abused his girlfriend and hid their four month old baby from her had previously avoided jail for the same offences against an ex-partner.
Paul Manson pleaded guilty to committing actual bodily harm, and to engaging in coercive and controlling behaviour after assaulting the mother of his child. He was jailed for 16 months.

A musician with a record deal left his promising career in tatters after becoming immersed in the ketamine trade.
Police uncovered nearly £40,000 of drugs when they raided Daniel O’Neill’s flat, with he and co-conspirator Brady Tierney having secretly plotted to “undercut” their underworld rivals. When their phones were examined, messages were found “clearly relating to drugs” – including texts between the two which referred to “getting busy and making money”, funds which they would split evenly.

O’Neill admitted being concerned in the supply of ketamine while Tierney pleaded guilty to possession of ketamine with intent to supply and possession of cocaine. Both were jailed for 30 months.
Tamar Palmer

A 17-year-old boy stabbed his cousin with a “Rambo knife” with a 40cm long blade.
Tamar Palmer pleaded guilty to possessing an offensive weapon in public and wounding with intent. He was handed 37 months in a young offenders’ institution.

Two men used a “honeypot” to ensnare vulnerable victims and steal their life savings.
Paul Miles and Ross Smith pinched more than £54,000 from their two victims. The 96-year-old mother and her son had been saving money for many years, and kept the huge sum stashed in the man’s bedroom.

Both defendants admitted burglary, with Miles sentenced to 45 months imprisonment. Smith was handed a 36-month sentence.

A taxi driver was caught with thousands of pounds of drugs down his trousers when he was pulled over by police.
Raymond Katsande admitted possession of cocaine, ecstasy and ketamine with intent to supply, possession of 2CB and possession of criminal property. He was jailed for 28 months.

An EncroChat dealer was arrested at Manchester Airport after using the handle “SkintHarry”
George Powell pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine and heroin. He was sentenced to 12 years.
Chesney Miller

A gang of masked teenagers travelled in convoy to a sixth form college to settle a “grudge” before stabbing two students.
Chesney Miller was one of the thugs who waited outside Riverside College in Widnes[20] before chasing a boy down the street and became involved “in the thick of the violence”, including having “delivered a flying kick” to him. He admitted violent disorder and was handed 11 months.

A man with “one of the worst” criminal records seen by the courts burgled a mosque while a funeral was taking place.
Kevin McMullen admitted four counts of burglary. He was jailed for 10 months.
Nathan Corlett

A former warehouse worker drove a knifeman away from the scene of a brutal stabbing and hid his coat for him in a bid to thwart investigators.
Nathan Corlett drove to Warrington on request to pick up Lee Ashton after he knifed Robert Bassnett, who was in a relationship with his ex-partner, before dropping him at the Holiday Inn in Runcorn and disposing of a bag containing the knifeman’s clothes. He admitted assisting an offender and was jailed for a year.

A man who has committed more than 30 burglaries spat at police officers and called one of them a homophobic name.
Stephen Harold pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted burglary of a dwelling, one count of burglary of a dwelling, one count of going equipped for theft and two counts of assaulting emergency workers. He was jailed for 44 months.

A burglar was arrested outside Goodison Park on an Everton FC matchday after breaking into the stock room of a Liverpool ONE store.
John Gill admitted two counts of burglary, theft and breaching a suspended sentence order. He was jailed for two years.

A burglar charged at a man while brandishing a hammer after he attempted to thwart the crook’s getaway attempts.
Andrew Thompson callously targeted a house on Christmas Day 2022 while the homeowner was out having his Christmas dinner. He was jailed for four years and eight months.

A prisoner who stabbed his fellow inmate was suffering from paranoid thoughts at the time of the attack.
Daniel Berry was convicted of unlawful wounding and unlawful possession of a bladed article in prison. He was given an indefinite hospital order.

A 16-year-old boy kneecapped a man after opening fire with a pistol outside a convenience store in the early hours.
Joel Harvey carried out the shooting on Prescot[21] Road in Old Swan in a “revenge” attack against his victim and was then linked to a second incident in which another man was shot in the chest only weeks later in Broadgreen. The teenager was locked up for 12-and-a-half years after being convicted of a string of firearms offences.

A man told a nine-year-old girl he would no longer “play games with her” if she did not show him her genitals.
Michael Hartley pleaded guilty to six counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. He received three years behind bars.
Kevin Boyland

A thug brutally battered his girlfriend then went out for a takeaway “as if nothing had happened”.
Kevin Boyland admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was jailed for three years.

A man was kidnapped and shot by a gang who demanded a ransom after his relative scooped a £50,000 jackpot.
The victim was blasted in the leg with a shotgun and abandoned on a dark and secluded country lane, having been held against his will for hours by masked men Carl MacDowall, Carlton Mullen and Kieran Kristensen.

They were found guilty of kidnapping, wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence by a jury. MacDowall and Mullen previously admitted possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply and were handed 20 years plus an extended three-year licence period.

A twisted paedophile was brought to justice after a campaign of rape against a young child.
Christopher McConnell was found guilty of four counts of child rape. He was jailed for 18 years.
Fiona Crooks and Vincent Horsfall

A couple sold a firearm to a leading gangster with a history of violence in an Aldi car park to fund “cosmetic dental work”.
Police then discovered a second loaded firearm stashed inside a Berghaus man bag next to a pair of children’s wellies when they raided the home of Fiona Crooks and Vincent Horsfall. The mum shouted “we’re f***ed here” as she learned officers had stormed their address.

Horsfall admitted selling a firearm, possession of a firearm and ammunition and three counts of fraud and was jailed for six years and nine months. Crooks pleaded guilty to intentionally encouraging the commission of an offence and was handed two years.
Luke Woods

A killer battered his pregnant girlfriend in a park before abandoning her as she lay seriously injured on the ground.
Luke Woods was previously locked up after killing pensioner Len Saunders in a vicious and unprovoked assault, causing serious head injuries with one forceful punch. Six years later, he “acted like an animal” and attacked his expectant partner in a similar manner – knocking her to the floor with a single blow and causing a facial scar which may need plastic surgery to be corrected.
Woods admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was jailed for two years.
Rohit Bindhu
A twisted paedophile caught with sick images of a young child being raped on his computer whined “this is going to ruin my life” as he was arrested.
Rohit Bindhu pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images, possession of indecent images, possession of extreme pornographic images, possession of prohibited images, attempted sexual communications with a child, arranging a child sex offence, attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, inciting a child to watch a sex act and distributing sexual images of children. He was jailed for five years and three months.
Ryan Kenny

A “drunken nuisance” got on a bus and told passengers: “I’m going to nonce you up.”
Ryan Kenny admitted sexual assault, assault, theft and burglary. He was jailed for 28 months and handed a criminal behaviour order banning him from the city centre for three years.
James Lawson
A conman posed as a plumber, a roofer and a Dyson engineer to trick innocent people out of their hard-earned cash to fund his gambling addiction.
James Lawson pleaded guilty to 20 counts of fraud. He was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.

A drugs gang courier “decided it was time to come home and face the consequences” after seven years on the run in Amsterdam.
Liam Mills admitted two counts of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, possession of a prohibited weapon and breaching bail. He was jailed for seven years and seven months.

A golfer got more than he bargained for when he went looking for balls in a bush.
The man was searching for stray golf balls in shrubbery near to Kirkby Valley Golf Club when he discovered a loaded sawn-off shotgun hidden inside a pillow case. When convicted drug dealer Thanh Hoang’s DNA was found on the firearm, he claimed he had previously come across the weapon while out metal detecting.
The 43-year-old admitted possession of a firearm during an earlier hearing. Hoang bowed to the judge and said “thank you” after being locked up for five years.
Gary Youds

A “cannabis martyr” told police he was “saving the city by producing the fruits of the earth for the people” when they discovered his grow.
Gary Youds, a well-known campaigner for the legalisation of the class B drug and the former owner of a “cannabis café”, had been supplying cannabis oil to a dying man free of charge in order to ease the pain of his terminal cancer. However, a judge at Liverpool Crown Court found he had also been producing and selling “purple haze” for profit.
Youds pleaded guilty to production of cannabis, possession of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of cannabis. He was jailed for three years after “commercially benefitting” from his farm.

A man raped a woman while she slept and later bit her before demanding she perform oral sex on him.
Jack Williams admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm, sexual assault and rape, as well as robbery after targeting a 15-year-old boy for his bike. Williams was sentenced to 11 years and two months behind bars
Ryan Jones

A convicted heroin and crack cocaine dealer trafficked a boy in care to work in the supply of drugs hundreds of miles away from his home.
The teenager told staff at the children’s home where he was living that he was going fishing in Wales before Ryan Jones put him on a train from Liverpool Lime Street to the south west of England. The 27-year-old admitted arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation and was jailed for 43 months.
James Quinn, Edward Dutton, Anthony Jones and Nathan Kelly

A shooting plot unravelled when a gang member crashed his motorbike as he attempted to make his getaway from the scene of the incident.
Edward Dutton, Anthony Jones, Nathan Kelly and James Quinn travelled together in convoy in a hired Mercedes and on two motorcycles before opening fire with a pistol on the streets of Dingle while children played nearby. They then sped off through residential roads, but were forced into an unexpected “clear up” effort in a desperate bid to avoid detection when one of the bikers smashed into a car and broke his ankle.

Each defendant was found guilty[22] of conspiracy to possess a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence by a jury. Kelly was also convicted of dangerous driving, while Quinn admitted further counts of being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine and possession of criminal property.

He received a total of nine-and-a-half years behind bars. Dutton was jailed for six years, to be served consecutively to his current prison term.

Janette Mercer was previously locked up for three years back in 2009 for perverting the course of justice, having told lies to detectives investigating the 11-year-old schoolboy’s fatal shooting at her son Sean Mercer’s hands. The 63-year-old appeared back before Liverpool Crown Court having been convicted of assisting an offender for a second time.
This charge related to another of her three sons, Joseph Mercer, who she helped to remain at large while he was wanted over drug supply offences. Janette Mercer was imprisoned for nine months[26].

Kieran Salkeld and Jake Duffy were recorded on a Ring doorbell camera cornering Sam Searson in the front yard of a property on Highfield Road, Rock Ferry, on December 23 2022. Footage shared on social media showed both kicking, punching and stamping on the helpless victim for around a minute.
One could be heard in the clip shouting to a screaming woman “mind your own business alright, he’s a little ken robber” before the victim of the assault mumbled “I don’t rob kens lad”. Salkeld replied “nice one” after he was jailed for 27 months while Duffy was jailed for two years after pleading guilty to unlawful wounding without intent and affray.

The 53-year-old was viciously punched and kicked to death. Spaine was jailed for life with a minimum term of 18 years.

Leading the attack was Keiron Williams – described as either the head or near the top of an Everton based organised crime group involved in a “turf war” with another gang, although the full facts of the rivalry are not clear.
The 28-year-old, of no fixed address, was sentenced to life with a minimum of 18 years in prison. Anthony Williams of Hillbrook Drive, Walton[39], was sentenced to life with a minimum of 18 years in prison.

Both admitted conspiracy to supply class A drugs. Davidson was jailed for 18 years and nine months, while Gorry was locked up for 16 years and six months.

Brian Flynn[60] launched a pint glass at Jamie Dempsey’s head in the Brambles pub, Kirkby, over an unpaid drug debt. Dempsey then went on to stab Flynn outside, but also fatally knifed his 55-year-old mother Karen Dempsey in the heart as she tried to stop the violence.
Flynn appeared admitted affray in relation to his part in the tragic incident and was locked up for 20 months.

Shaun Tinsley smashed into the back of Paul Loller’s car “like a missile” on the M62 in the early hours while high on nitrous oxide. He then careered into the central reservation and fled, leaving the innocent 61-year-old dying at the scene.
Tinsley admitted causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after an accident, failing to report an accident, causing death by driving while disqualified, causing death by driving while uninsured and driving without insurance. He showed no reaction as he was jailed for nine years and four months.

Craig and Ashley Gallagher had ambitions to flood the UK with hundreds of kilograms of class A drugs every week while arranging the sale of a frightening arsenal of guns, including AK-47 assault rifles and semi-automatic AR-15s. While the former was today handed a lengthy prison sentence over their multi-million pound operation, his older sibling remains on the run from the law and is believed to be in hiding abroad.
Craig Gallagher admitted conspiracy to import cocaine, conspiracy to supply cannabis, conspiracy to convert criminal property and assisting an offence of conspiracy to transfer firearms. Appearing remotely from HMP Liverpool, he shook his head after being jailed for 24 years before leaving the video link booth.

Joseph Farrell pleaded guilty to section 18 assault, possession of a weapon in a public place, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, and handling stolen goods at an earlier hearing. Thomas Byrne pleaded guilty to assisting an offender at an earlier hearing.
Farrell was sentenced to six years in prison. Byrne was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

She was convicted of the murder of her partner Kasey Anderson following a trial. He died a week before his 25th birthday in March this year after being slashed several times with a knife and suffering two stab wounds.

Mark Murphy pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply 17.75kg of cocaine, 9kg of heroin and 2kg of cannabis, conspiracy to possess a prohibited weapon and associated ammunition, namely a Glock self-loading pistol, along with possession with intent to supply cocaine. He was jailed for 18 years.

Jonathan Weedall and Karen Hazelden pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine. Both received two years and eight months in prison.

Govar Abdul-Rahman pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and was found guilty of two further charges of sexual assaults, as well as trespassing with intent to commit sexual assault, attempted trespass with intent to commit sexual assault and voyeurism. He was jailed for nine years and four months.

James Costello was found guilty of 19 counts of stirring up racial hatred by publishing materials. He was jailed for five years.

Ashley Dale’s killers were jailed for a combined total of 173 years.
The 28-year-old council worker[104] was shot dead in her own home on Leinster Road in Old Swan[105] in the early hours of August 21 last year. James Witham, Joseph Peers, Niall Barry and Sean Zeisz were unanimously convicted of her murder following a seven-week trial.

They were also found guilty of conspiracy to murder Ms Dale’s boyfriend Lee Harrison and conspiracy to possess a prohibited weapon, namely a Skorpion submachine gun, and ammunition with intent to endanger life.

David Pursglove, 35, admitted causing death by careless driving after knocking over Lexi McDavid at around 3.30pm on June 7 last year. The Broughton Hall Catholic High School pupil was on her way to a friend’s house when she got off a bus on Princess Drive, Huyton[108], and ran out into the road, where she was hit by Pursglove’s white Mercedes Sprinter van as it travelled at around 45mph in a 30mph zone.
Pursglove showed no emotion as he was sentenced to eight months in prison, and banned from driving for two years and 10 months. Lexi’s family, sitting in court, broke down in tears.

A Ryanair flight attendant was killed by a dangerous driver after he sent a one-word text message.
Cinzia Ceravolo, 36, died on Friday, August 26, 2022, four days after she was hit by a Ford Focus being driven by Kieran Cooney, 31. The Ryanair cabin crew member was returning home after two days away with work and had arrived back into Liverpool John Lennon Airport[110] on a flight from Dublin.
Moments before the crash, Cooney had received two text messages from his partner, one regarding their child’s nappy, and he had sent a one-word reply saying “really”. He was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting causing death by dangerous driving.
Ellis Price and Jordan Hawkins
A woman was punched to the floor after a huge brawl erupted outside a bar.
Ellis Price and Jordan Hawkins pleaded guilty to affray.
Price was jailed for 18 months while Hawkins received a nine month sentence.
