The Surrey people recognised in the King’s New Year Honours list 2024

Numerous Surrey residents[1] have seen their impressive achievements and hard work recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List for 2024. Highlighting extraordinary people from around the country, a total of 24 people in Surrey have landed themselves a spot on the prestigious list.

From those who have excelled in their scientific fields, to dedicated charity organisers and outstanding teachers, the list recognises a wide variety of people and their amazing contributions to the communities around them. Among them is Andrew Scattergood, CEO of The Royal Parks charity.

He has been awarded the CBE in the King’s New Year Honours List for services to heritage and charity. Andrew joined The Royal Parks in 2015 and oversaw its transition from a government agency to an independent charity in 2017.

Speaking about the award, Andrew said: “I am unbelievably honoured to have received recognition in the New Year honours. But this is an award that recognises the hard work and commitment of everyone who works either directly or indirectly for The Royal Parks including our volunteers, supporters and many partners.” Take a look at the full list below.

  • Dr Denise Chaffer, from Epsom, for services to patient safety. Lately Director, Safety and Learning, NHS Resolution and lately President of the Royal College of Nursing.

  • Mark Cutifani, from Cobham, for services to investment in the global mining industry. Lately Chief Executive, Anglo American.

  • Andrew Scattergood, from Leatherhead, for services to heritage and to charity. Chief Executive Officer, The Royal Parks.

  • Dr Charles Woodburn, from Farnham, for services to international trade and skills development. Chief Executive Officer, BAE Systems.

  • Gordon Hickman, from Godalming, for services to animal health and voluntary service to sport. Head of Exotic Disease Policy, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

  • Carol Hui, from Godalming, for services to tourism. Lately Board Member, British Tourist Authority.

  • Elizabeth Hutton, from Woking, for services to education and prevention of stillbirths. Chief Executive Officer, Kicks Count.
