Road and rail disruption after heavy snow overnight

The Met Office had yesterday issued a 'yellow' weather warning for ice and snow which is still in place until 11am today (Saturday).

Many people have woken up to picturesque snow scenes but this has resulted in travel chaos.

ScotRail states on its website that many train services will be delayed, revised or cancelled. 

A post on social media added: "Heavy snow is affecting multiple routes across the West of Scotland this morning.

"The snow is affecting some signalling systems and staff are working as quickly as possible to rectify these just now. Please check your journey prior to travelling."

The travel disruption is expected to last until 2pm.

Glasgow Airport posted on X (formerly Twitter): "Flight operations are currently suspended due to heavier than forecast snow.

"Our winter teams have been working through the night and we hope to resume operations as soon as possible. Please check with your airline for further flight updates."

The Met Office forecasters told the public to expect longer journey times by road, bus and train services.

It advised there will be snow and icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

People are also advised to take care due to the risk of slips and falls on icy surfaces.
