Recap: ‘Jack-knifed lorry’ brings A50 to a standstill

Traffic was brought to a standstill on the A50[1] after a lorry jack-knifed. The incident took place in Blythe Bridge[2] at the main roundabout.

A live map from National Highways showed how the incident left traffic at a standstill on the westbound carriageway from Uttoxeter[3]. An alert from traffic monitoring system Inrix stated: “A50[4] in both directions partially blocked, queueing traffic due to jack-knifed lorry at A521 (Blythe Bridge roundabout / Draycott). On the roundabout.”

Meanwhile traffic also built up on the approach to the roundabout in Blythe Bridge on the eastbound side. It was yet another issue on the roads Thursday with a number being shut off as a result of Storm Pia.

While various roads were shut due to fallen trees, there were also problems on the rail network between Stoke-on-Trent and Macclesfield.
