Real time travel updates as fallen tree shuts key North Staffordshire road

A fallen tree has shut a key North Staffordshire road in both directions. The incident on the A53 in Whitmore comes as the area has been hit by strong winds sweeping through the area.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix says the incident has taken place between The Mainwaring Arms and Trentham Road. Subsequently the route is shut.

An alert states: "The A53 Whitmore Road in both directions is closed. There is queuing traffic due to a fallen tree between The Mainwaring Arms (Whitmore) and the A5182 Trentham Road (Whitmore roundabout, Butterton). The sensors show that the road is now fully closed."

It comes as the roads are busy with those looking to enjoy some time off over Christmas while a number of people are also back at work.
