Pensioner rushed to hospital after being hit by lorry near Blantyre shopping centre
A pensioner has been rushed to hospital after struck by a lorry[1] in Blantyre.
The 84-year-old man was on Glasgow Road, near Clydeview Shopping Centre, when the crash unfolded around 6pm on Tuesday.
Emergency services were called to the scene and the pedestrian was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital[2] for treatment. His condition is currently unknown.
The 53-year-old driver was arrested by officers[3].
A Police Scotland Spokesperson said: “Around 6pm on Tuesday, 19 December 2023 police received a report of a crash involving a lorry and a pedestrian on Glasgow Road, Blantyre, between Elm Road and John Street. Emergency services attended and the 84-year-old male pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
The 53-year-old male driver was arrested in connection with a road traffic offence and released pending further enquiries.
“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the crash.”
