North East weekend weather forecast with new Met Office snow …

The North East[1] is set for an icy first weekend of December, with forecasters saying that further weather warnings could be issued as the week’s wintry conditions persist.

According to the latest forecast from the Met Office[2], the region will feel very cold through the night on Friday and into Saturday, with clear spells and a widespread frost with some wintry showers at the coast and freezing fog patches inland as temperatures drop as low as -5°C. A Yellow weather[3] warning for snow and ice is in place across the North East as of 5pm on Friday, December 1 until 10am on Saturday, December 2.

Saturday will get off to a cold and frosty start, but will be mainly dry with sunny spells and light winds across the North East. Sunday is expected to feel very cold with frost and freezing fog likely once again, but with some more sunshine peeking through – if you’re heading out and about make sure you wrap up warm, with temperatures forecast to reach highs of just 2°C.

Forecasters have warned that the wintry conditions are likely to cause longer journey times by road and rail, while icy patches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths could cause accidents, with the public urged to pay particular care when the weather warning is in place. The UKHSA has also issued yellow and amber cold-health alerts for the health sector covering all regions of England through until Tuesday, December 5.

The Met Office has advised people to stay up to date with the forecast in their area, as further weather warnings may be issued in the coming days. Here’s the hour-by-hour forecast in Newcastle[4] throughout the first weekend of December.
