No trains on Kyle line until January 4 following Christmas flooding …
Railway passengers on the Kyle of Lochalsh Line will face disruption into the new year following bad flooding in the run-up to Christmas.
National Rail has confirmed that the line will be closed until the end of the day on Wednesday, January 3 after Network Rail Scotland reported "significant damage" to the track.
It follows heavy rain and snow in the weekend before Christmas, which brought widespread local flooding to parts of the Highlands – with the likes of the A9 closed at Tomich[2] for a time by flood water.
Heavy rain also forced the closure of the Kyle line near Garve on December 23 to allow for "urgent repairs".
At the time, Network Rail Scotland warned that the repairs could take "several days".
National Rail later confirmed on Boxing Day that due to the flooding, no trains are expected to run on that line until the end of January 3.
Bus replacement services have been organised for the resumption of the normal timetable on Wednesday, December 27 following the Christmas Day and Boxing Day break.
These will be operated by D&E, MacNeil and Kineil.
However, while bus replacements have also been requested to run from December 28 onwards[3] "these are not yet confirmed" and passengers on those dates are being urged to keep tabs on their journeys.
"More updates will be posted once we have more information," said a spokesperson for National Rail.
"Please be advised that your journey time will be extended when travelling by replacement road transport."
