New Met Office icey weather warning for Surrey with risks of injuries due to slippery surfaces
The Met Office has issued a new weather warning for ice across parts of the county. This comes as temperatures continue to plummet this weekend.
The yellow warning, which is set to be in place from midnight to 8am (December 3), warns people of the risk of injuries due to icy surfaces. This includes drivers and cyclists who are likely to face some icy patches on “untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths”.
Temperatures will be dropping to -2C in Esher[1], Kenley, and Coulsdon this evening, with a ‘feels like’ of -5C.
The Met Office warning reads: “Rain or sleet is expected to spread from west to east across the area overnight, falling on to frozen surfaces leading to some icy patches, perhaps even where treatment has been applied.
“Keep yourself and your family safe when it is icy. Plan to leave the house at least five minutes earlier than normal. Not needing to rush, reduces your risk of accidents, slips, and falls. If you need to make a journey on foot or by bike, try to use pavements along main roads which are likely to be less slippery.
“Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays by checking road conditions if driving, or bus and train timetables, amending your travel plans if necessary.”
The forecast for the rest of the day in London and the south east reads includes some patches of freezing fog overnight. Skies clearing elsewhere allowing a widespread frost to occur. Cloud build from the west overnight with outbreaks of mostly rain, although some sleet or hill snow possible. Minimum temperature -4 °C.” It will be warmer tomorrow with parts of the county reaching highs of 7C in the afternoon. Rains are also to be expected.
