Met Office issues ‘yellow’ warning to Lincolnshire drivers ahead of strong winds
The Met Office has warned of travel disruption across Lincolnshire ahead of 55mph gusts of wind. Drivers can expect ‘likely’ delays on roads, bus and train journeys will ‘probably’ be affected and take longer than usual.
The ‘yellow’ warning will be in place from 9am on Saturday, December 9 until around 11.45pm the same day. Coastal routes and communities could also be affected by spray and large waves, the Met Office says.
The Devonshire-based forecaster has also warned of short-term power cuts and said it is ‘likely’ that high-sided vehicles, such as lorries, will face delays on exposed routes. Drivers have been advised to check road conditions before heading out and amend their travel plans if necessary.

In its guidance, the Met Office said that motorists should drive slowly to minimise the impact of wind gusts and be cautious when overtaking high-sided vehicles.
They should also grip the steering wheel firmly and give cyclists, motorcyclists, lorries and buses more room than usual. Driving in such conditions can be ‘dangerous,’ the institute said.
The meteorologists also offered advice for people facing power cuts, saying residents cope better with power cuts when they’re prepared. Those affected consider gathering torches and batteries, a mobile phone power pack and other essential items.
Those on the coast should remain aware of large waves. The Met Office said: “Even from the shore, large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea.
“Take care if walking near cliffs. Know your route and keep dogs on a lead.”
The warning covers much of the East Midlands, with Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire affected, too.
