Merseyrail services disrupted as trespassers get onto track

Rail users are facing disruption this evening after trespassers got onto the tracks at Liverpool Central station.

Services on both the Wirral[1] line and the Northern line are subject to delay and short notice cancellations. Merseyrail[2] said disruption on the Northern line is expected to last until 8.30pm.

For the Wirral line, normal service is expected to resume from 5.45pm.

Train services to Southport[5], and Hunts Cross, may be cancelled at short notice or delayed. Meanwhile services to and from Ormskirk, and Headbolt Lane will start and terminate at Sandhills. Merseyrail confirmed rail replacement buses have been requested to operate between Hunts Cross and Sandhills via Moorfields in both directions, but are not yet in operation.

The disruption has caused problems for festive shoppers and Everton fans travelling home from today's match against Chelsea.
