Man with expired provisional licence is caught by cops… 60 years after failing his driving test

Police who stopped a driver on the motorway were stunned after discovering he was using an expired provisional licence - SIXTY YEARS after failing his test. The silver Citroen was pulled over by officers on the M55 on Boxing Day.

And after asking to see the driver's licence police discovered he had failed his test in the 1960s. Lancashire Constabulary's road policing unit posted a picture on X, formerly Twitter[1], of the vehicle on the back of a tow truck after it was seized.

They said the driver, who has not been identified, was reported for motoring offences. He will be summonsed to appear before magistrates in due course.

The post on X showed the vehicle on the hard shoulder of the M55 between junctions 1 and 2. It read: "The driver of this vehicle was driving on an expired provisional licence....having failed his test in the 1960s!

"He has now been reported and had his vehicle seized!"

The post attracted dozens of comments from social media users, with one saying: "That's some going. Not having past a driving test and getting away with it for the best part of 60 years."

Another joked: "That's 60yrs ago. Who you stopped! Santa??" while a third commented: "So in other words he has been driving for 60 odd years without coming to the attention of the police? Sounds like he is less of a threat than most other drivers on the road."
