M62 horror crash between electric bike and lorry shuts road for nine hours
An e-bike rider has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a collision with a lorry on the M62[1] in the early hours of this morning.
There has been chaos on the roads near Lofthouse on Tuesday morning after the M62 Westbound was shut by Police since around 2am following a serious crash. West Yorkshire Police[2] closed the carriageway from J30 A642 ( Rothwell[3] ) to J29 M1 J42 (Lofthouse) after a crash between an e-bike and a lorry at 1.17am. The motorway reopened at 10.45am. The e-bike rider has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries after the collision with a lorry on the westbound carriageway of the M62 near junction 30. The motorway has been closed for nine hours while police investigations and recovery work is underway.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “Emergency services are continuing to attend on the westbound carriageway of the M62 at junction 30 following a serious collision between a HGV and a rider on an electrically assisted bike just after 1.17am this morning.
“The cycle rider received serious injuries in the incident. The motorway remains closed at the junction while police investigations and work to recover the HGV remain ongoing.
“Drivers are urged to avoid the area and are thanked for their patience.” The motorway has now reopened.
