M5 traffic live: Lorry carrying potatoes overturns and closes motorway for almost 12 hours

People heading down the M5 to the West Country from Gloucestershire faced long delays after a lorry carrying potatoes overturned in Devon on Wednesday morning (December 20). The incident happened between junction 28 for Cullompton and junction 29 for Exeter and Honiton at around 7.55am.

The southbound carriageway was blocked with diversions in place, but all lanes have since reopened. National Highways[1] and emergency services were at the scene all day

Traffic and travel service Inrix on Wednesday evening said: "Queueing traffic due to earlier overturned vehicle and earlier shed load of potatoes. The lorry and the potatoes have now been cleared but there is still traffic in the area."
