M4 crash closes M4 into Sunday with diversions in place
A serious crash on Saturday night has closed a section of the M4 in Wiltshire into Sunday (December 10). The closure is likely to be in place throughout the morning.
Emergency services[1] are at the scene of the crash which has happened between junction 15 for the A346 Swindon East and junction 17 for Chippenham. National Highways traffic officers are assisting with management of the queues and diversion.

Diversion Routes
Road users travelling eastbound are advised to follow the hollow circle diversion symbol on road signs
- Exit at J16 and take the 1st exit off the roundabout onto the A3102
- At Mannington roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the B4006
- At Bruce Street Bridges roundabout take the 2nd exit onto the B4289
- At Transfer Bridges roundabout take 3rd exit
- At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A4313
- At the T-junction turn left onto the A4312
- At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto the A4259
- At Commonhead roundabout take the 4th exit onto the A419
- Re-join the M4 at J15
Road users heading westbound are advised to follow the hollow triangle diversion symbol on road signs
- Follow the above route in reverse
Latest from traffic and travel service Inrix says: “All traffic being temporarily held and queueing traffic due to accident on M4 in both directions from J15 A346 Marlborough Road (Swindon East) to J17 A350 (Chippenham).”
