M4 closed in both directions after distressed man found walking along motorway

The M4 was closed in both directions after a pedestrian was spotted in distress walking along the motorway. South Wales Police said they received reports of the incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers attended and closed the motorway both ways between junction 42, for Swansea, and 43, for Llandarcy, as a precaution until they could ensure the man's safety. The road was re-opened at around 3am after officers were able to bring the 28-year-old to safety and into police custody.

A spokesman for South Wales Police[1] said: "Shortly after midnight emergency services were called after sightings of a pedestrian in distress walking along the M4[2] between junctions 42 and 43. The motorway was closed in both directions as a precaution. The incident concluded with the 28-year-old man safely coming into police custody. The road re-opened at around 3am."
