M11 recap as fuel spillage after lorry crash near Loughton causes long delays

A crash involving a lorry on an Essex motorway led to a fuel spillage and long delays this morning (December 6). The incident, which took place on the southbound M11 near Loughton, resulted in road closures and miles of traffic.

The crash, which occurred between Junction 6 M25 to Junction 5 A1168 Chigwell Lane (Loughton) was first reported just before 5am this morning, with traffic held and diverted through Epping. Recovery work was then carried out, with lane one of three shut while the lorry was being dragged back onto the road to have all its wheels replaced.

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "Accident on M11 Southbound from J6 M25 to J5 A1168 Chigwell Lane (Loughton), a lorry involved. Recovery work taking place after fuel spillage. Long delays, congestion to two miles before J7 Harlow, and heavy diverting through Epping. In lane one (of three). The lorry has been dragged back onto the road, now replacing all the wheels so it can roll again."

It is unclear whether anybody was injured in the crash but Essex Live has contacted emergency services for more details.
