M1 crash southbound by Luton airport causes heavy delays

The M1 was closed for about seven hours near Luton airport after a serious collision between a car and a lorry - causing heavy delays in the area.

National Highways said the busy motorway, between junctions 11 and 10, in Bedfordshire, was shut at 05:46 GMT but reopened at about 12:50.

Emergency services attended and one person was taken to hospital with serious injuries, Bedfordshire Police said.

Long delays remain in the area, with about an hour being added to journey times, National Highways added.
