Incident summary 19 December, 2023 – Day shift
To ensure that people are not identifiable from our incident round-up, we will no longer be providing street names for smaller towns and villages, where incidents have occurred.
Time: 09:00 Location: Raskelf
Following a call from Network Rail who had in turn been contacted by one of their train driver’s that he believed he had seen a car on fire off the road near the rail track, an fire engine was dispatched from Boroughbridge. On arrival, fire crew reported a false alarm good intent due to attended controlled burning in a garden.
Time: 09:12 Location: Main Street, Thixendale
Following a call from a passing dog walker stating that smoke was seen in a residential premises, fire crews from Malton and Tadcaster (who were in the area), were dispatched. On arrival, Malton crew confirmed that there had been a fire in the kitchen which was out of their arrival. Fire crew opened windows to ventilate the premises, and carried out a home risk assessment with the occupant. The smoke resulted from a plastic feeding bowl for the cat melting on the hob after the owner’s dog had turned the hob on.
Time: 10:53 Location: Cayton, Scarborough
Scarborough and Filey crews responded to the occupant of a residential premises stating that the flue from their wood burner was smoking and hot. Fire crews removed coals from fire and advised occupant to have chimney inspected before using fire again.
Time: 12:28 Location: Staveley
Boroughbridge, Knaresborough and Harrogate appliances responded to a fire in the ground floor of a semi-detached property. Fire confined to the living room with was extinguished using a hose reel with breathing apparatus and a thermal camera. Fire investigation carried out with the cause believed due to an electrical fault.

Tadcaster and Malton fire crews responded to a report of a small fire in a brick built flue in a premises used for public assembly.
Time: 15:23 Location: Jenny Field Drive, Harrogate
Police requested Fire attendance for a car smoking. On attendance, fire crew confirmed there had been a 2 car RTC – no persons trapped or injured. Fire crew made the vehicles safe and carried out traffic management until Police were able to take over.
There were also a fire alarm activation responded to in: West Tanfield. It proved to be a false alarm.
