Haulage firm’s plans to extend warehouse, parking and build new lorry access deferred

Proposals to extend an Ipswich[1] warehouse and build a new side access road have been deferred.

At its planning and development meeting today, Ipswich Borough Council put off making a decision on an application by Hemisphere Freight Services to conduct work at its premises in White House Road.

Planning documents detail the firm’s plans to create new extensions, make space for new staff parking, build a side access road onto the site, and make some alterations to the inside.

This would create 40 new car parking spaces, bringing the total to 130, including EV charging, with the addition of disabled bays, bike and motorcycle spaces, and create a seven-metre wide access route for lorries, which could accommodate as many as 12 heavy and four light goods vehicles.

In addition, floor space would increase by more than 3,400 square metres and could lead to more staff being hired.

A spokesman for Hemisphere Freight Services said the plans stood to create greater opportunities for employment and help the business remain viable and sustainable.

Hemisphere Freight Services recently purchased[2] Great Blakenham-based Magnus Group.

While 80 jobs were lost in the transfer, 25 were saved.

Despite the deferral, the plans have been recommended for approval, subject to several conditions, including the gates being moved back by five metres.

The proposals will go back before planners soon.
