Fire victim rushed to hospital after blaze in derelict building
A person was rescued from a fire after a blaze broke out in a derelict building.
Emergency services were called to the site[1], near a car park on Pall Mall at around 5.20am on Friday, December 1. Six fire engine crews attended alongside police and paramedics.
Firefighters fought to put out the flames on the ground floor of the four-storey building and discovered a person.[2] The person was rescued from the fire and then passed onto paramedics who took them to hospital.[3] Merseyside fire and rescue service said the person had suffered from smoke inhalation.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said :"[We] attended an incident at Pall Mall[6], Liverpool, on 1 December. Crews were alerted at 5.15am and on scene at 5.21am. Six fire engines attended alongside Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS).
"On arrival crews found a four-storey derelict building with a fire on the ground floor. Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus began fighting the fire with a hose reel jet and main jet was used externally.
"The incident was sectorised and crews continued fighting the fire while searching for any occupants. One casualty was recovered by firefighters and handed over to NWAS to be transported to hospital.
"At 6.45am sectors began to be shut down and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus continued searching for any other occupants. At 8.05am the incident was scaled down and four firefighters continued hot spotting and dampening down the area.
"At 8.57am it was concluded that all persons were accounted for and NWAS were stood down. One fire engine is currently on scene to continue dampening down."
