Edinburgh to Newcastle rail services cancelled after track flooded
Those travelling to and from Edinburgh[1] via Newcastle by rail[2] have been warned to expect severe disruption after lines at Morpeth have been flooded after heavy rainfall on Monday December 4.
Network Rail have said that CrossCountry services between Plymouth and Edinburgh, LNER and Lumo between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh and TransPennine Express between Newcastle and Edinburgh will all see disruption until around 10am on Tuesday December 5.
Network Rail have stated that heavy rain has flooded the railway at multiple locations between Newcastle and Berwick-upon-Tweed.
They say their staff are on site monitoring the situation, however, at present it is unsafe for trains to run between these stations, and although there are efforts to put road transport services between Edinburgh and Newcastle, these are not in place at this time.
LNER have warned that passengers may be unable to travel between Edinburgh and Newcastle on Tuesday with passengers able to use their tickets on Wednesday December 6.
