Delays to trains on recently-reopened line after lorry hits bridge
Train passengers faced delays on a newly-reopened line today after a lorry crashed into a railway bridge. The vehicle became stuck under the bridge near St David’s Church in Barmouth[1], Gwynedd[2], on Wednesday morning.
Police were called to assist at the scene, with the road blocked as a result of the incident. Train services were also disrupted for a short time as a result of the crash.
A post on the Barmouth Station Facebook[3] page said: “A lorry has hit the train bridge by St David’s Church and as such, trains in both directions will be affected with delays likely. A coach has departed Machynlleth in order to transfer passengers currently on the 10.59 in Barmouth.”
At 12.45pm today, the Facebook post was updated to say: “The line has now re-opened with 12.56 from Barmouth to Machynlleth now expected on time and the 13.57 from Barmouth to Pwllheli[6] is expected to arrive between 13.57 and 14.07.” The Cambrian Coast line has only recently reopened after a multi-million pound renovation of the iconic Barmouth Bridge[7], which lasted months.
