A Celtic-daft dad is celebrating the New Year richer after scoring a huge lottery win.

Peter McGhee, 57, pocketed £100,000 after sharing a £1 million jackpot with eight of his neighbours in the People’s Postcode Lottery.

The lorry driver, who is from Craigneuk and moved to Wokingham in Berkshire 35 years ago, is planning[1] to treat his wife and three children to a dream holiday.

He said: “I didn’t know what to think, I was taken by surprise.

“We’ll have a lovely holiday. We can go anywhere now. We went to New York a few years ago and we’ve not been back to Florida since 2005. We can do that now definitely.”

Peter’s wife Louise, a catering worker, would like to trade her BMW for a Mercedes AMG.

Speaking about the win, the surprised 44-year-old said: “This doesn’t happen to us.

“I wished one day someone would knock on our door. Now you have, I cannot put into words how I feel.”

Peter’s postcode RG40 1LL landed the Postcode Lottery’s weekly Millionaire Street prize on Saturday.

Each ticket was worth £100,000, and one person doubled the win to £200,000 thanks to playing with two tickets.

As well as a holiday of a lifetime, musical Peter also wants to rekindle his love for the Uillean pipes – or Irish bagpipes – after previously playing in folk bands.

He said: “I’d like to get a new set of Uillean pipes. I used to play a lot in folk bands, and I also play the whistle and the flute.”

Sadly he won’t be buying a season ticket for Celtic[2], adding: “I live too far away for that now.”
