Young driver dies after crashing into back of parked lorry

A young man has died following a collision on a main road near the Derbyshire border[1]. The crash happened on the A42 in Appleby Magna, Leicestershire, during the early hours of Wednesday, November 29.

A white BMW X3 was involved in a collision with a lorry which was parked in a layby on the southbound carriageway[2]. The driver of the BMW, a man in his 20s, was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham but has since died as a result of his injuries.

No one else was injured. The collision was reported just before 5am and the southbound carriageway was closed between junctions 12 and 11 for around 10 hours.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire police said: "Anyone who witnessed the collision and hasn't yet spoken to officers is asked to get in touch. Contact 101, quoting incident 68 of 29 November or report via www.leics.police.uk[4]."
