Woman seriously injured as car flips in crash on notorious road
A woman was seriously injured after her car flipped onto its side in a collision with a lorry close on a notorious section of a fast Warwickshire A-road. The crash happened close to the Darlingscote Road crossroads with the A429, near Shipston-on-Stour, at around 4.40pm on Wednesday.
Three schoolchildren tragically died[1] and two people suffered life-changing injuries in a horror smash in April near the B4035 Campden Road crossroads with the A429, about 1,500m south of yesterday’s incident. An ambulance, a paramedic officer, a community first responder and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene of the latest crash.
“On arrival we discovered one patient, a woman, from the car,” a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said. “She had to be cut free with assistance from fire service colleagues and was treated for serious injuries before being taken to University Hospital Coventry[2] and Warwickshire by land ambulance.
“The doctor and critical care paramedic from the air ambulance travelled in the back of the ambulance to help continue treatment en route to hospital.” Darlingscote Road and the A429 was temporarily closed as multiple emergency services attended to the collision. All affected roads reopened just after midnight today.
“During the collision, the car (a grey Volkswagen Golf) reportedly flipped onto its side,” a Warwickshire[4] Police spokesperson said. “One woman in her 70s was injured and has been taken to hospital.”
Fire crews from Stratford-upon-Avon[5] and Moreton-in-the-Marsh used a stabfast stabilisation technique to release the casualty. West Midlands Ambulance Service has been contacted for information.
