Woman in ‘serious condition’ after River Trent rescue

A woman was in a ‘serious condition’ after being rescued from the River Trent. Multiple emergency service crews were sent to the scene behind Stone Fire Station, off the A34 and Stafford Road, in Stone[1] at the weekend.

Paramedics were first alerted to the emergency shortly after 7am on Saturday (November 4). Eye-witnesses say access was gained through a farmer’s field with ambulances, police and firefighters in attendance for at least an hour.

She was then rushed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. An updated condition check has not yet been released.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] spokesman said: “We were called at 7.16am on Saturday to an incident in the water nearby to Stafford Road, Walton in Stone. Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) attended the scene.

“Upon arrival we found a woman. She was assessed by ambulance staff and found to be in a serious condition. She received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene and was conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment.”

Staffordshire Police[3] and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for statements.
