Two crashes at same spot within hours

A Birmingham suburb was brought to a standstill after a multi-car pile-up – the second major crash at the spot within hours. Police[1] closed off the Pershore Road at Stirchley[2] in both directions at the tail end of Friday’s rush hour last night.

Three vehicles were reported by onlookers as being involved in the collision between Mary Vale Road and Ash Tree Road at around 7pm last night, Friday November 3. It caused traffic chaos with buses diverted and tailbacks clogged up local roads.

Earlier that day, another crash saw an Audi TT badly damaged at the same spot, prompting residents to raise concerns about road safety.

Locals said in the earlier incident, a car had “crashed into the back of another car” but the driver walked away and did not appear to be injured.

A West Midlands Police[4] spokesperson updated on the latest crash last night saying: “We were called to Pershore Road at 7pm on November 3 after a collision involving a number of cars.

“No one was seriously injured and officers remained at the scene to help with the recovery of the cars involved.”

National Express West Midlands re-routed the number 45 and 47 buses along Pershore Road, Cartland Road, Pineapple Road and Fordhouse Lane to avoid the crash site.

Aaron Fenton said: “Three cars crashed into the back of each other. It was a massive crash at the end of Pershore Road by Balti Hut.

“No traffic was allowed along the whole street leading up to Dave’s shop either. There’s a 20mph speed limit but I’m told this happens a lot as the speed limit isn’t adhered to.”

POLL: Should Birmingham follow Wales and impose a 20mph speed limit on restricted roads?[5]

Marguerite Prosser commented about Pershore Road saying: “This road is turning out to be a nightmare.”
