Two badly injured as vans crash and cause traffic chaos

Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash blocked a road near Taunton[1] for several hours this morning. Emergency services were called to the scene of the collision – on the A358, near the junction with the A378 at Thornfalcon – shortly after 7am today (Wednesday, November 22).

Avon and Somerset Police said a blue Peugeot Boxer van and a white Ford Transit travelling in the same direction were involved in the crash. The road was blocked for around two hours, with two miles of congestion reported in the area[2], before being reopened by 9am.

Two people were taken by land ambulances to Musgrove Park Hospital[3], the a spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service said. Police officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to get in contact.

A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 07:09hrs on Wednesday 22 November to a road traffic collision near Taunton. We sent three double-crewed land ambulances and a doctor and conveyed two patients by land ambulances to Musgrove Park Hospital.”

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “Police were called at 07.11am today, Wednesday 22 November, to a collision at the junction of the A358 with the A378 at Thornfalcon, Taunton.

“A blue Peugeot Boxer van was in collision with a white Ford Transit. Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction. The road was reopened by 9am.
