Trucker freed as police, firefighters and paramedics called to smash …

A trucker had to be freed from his lorry following a crash which left a road closed. Police, paramedics and firefighters were scrambled to the A515 between Sudbury and Draycott in the Clay in the early hours of this morning.

And the collision at Aston Bridge – which passes over the River Dove – resulted in the route being shut off in both directions. Now paramedics have confirmed the driver was able to be discharged at the scene.

During the height of the incident police, firefighters and paramedics from two ambulance services were at the scene. The alarm was raised just before 1.40am.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to a road traffic collision involving a lorry on Aston Bridge, Lichfield Road in Ashbourne.

“Two ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) attended the scene alongside resources from East Midlands Ambulance Service. Upon arrival, we found a man who was the driver of the lorry who was extricated from the vehicle with assistance from the fire service.

“Once extricated, he was assessed by ambulance staff and had sustained injuries not believed to be serious. He received self care advice from ambulance staff before being discharged at the scene.”
