Truck blocks road amid heavy police and ambulance presence

A man has been taken to hospital following a police incident which closed a busy town road for hours. Park Crescent in Barry was closed from 2.15pm on Tuesday until Tuesday evening following an incident which led to a man, believed to be the driver of a 50-tonne delivery vehicle, lying on the floor receiving care from paramedics and the air ambulance service.

The large vehicle, which eyewitnesses said had been delivering to the pet shop on the road, was left in the road for hours while a police cordon was also in place. The cordon and the vehicle have since been removed.

The incident, which was attended by multiple South Wales Police officers as well as personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and the Wales Air Ambulance, led to significant congestion on surrounding roads including gridlock at Salisbury Road in the town. A spokesman for the ambulance service said on Tuesday: "We were called today at approximately 2.15pm to reports of a road traffic collision on the A4050 near Lewis Street. We sent an emergency ambulance to the scene where advanced critical care support was delivered by the emergency medical retrieval and transfer service in a Wales Air Ambulance charity helicopter. We conveyed one patient to University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, for further treatment."
