Tragic M5 crash leaves man dead

A man has died after a crash between a van and a lorry on the M5 last night (November 27).

The crash took place between junctions 4 and 4a, in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, and triggered a major emergency response. The M5 entry slip road at junction 5 was also closed due to the volume of traffic approaching from the A38. A diversion route was in place, taking motorists onto the M42 before re-joining the M5 at junction 4a.

Traffic monitoring site Inrix said earlier: "M5 Northbound closed, slow traffic due to emergency repairs at J4A M42. Congestion to before J5 (Droitwich/Wychbold), and the A38 heading towards J5.

"Road has been closed since yesterday evening after an accident involving a lorry and a van. The entry slip at J5 is closed to alleviate queues.

"Diversion - Via the M42 Northbound to leave at J2 (Alvechurch / Redditch). Take the fifth exit at the roundabout to re-join the M42 Southbound as traffic can still access the M5 from the M42."

The motorway has now reopened in both directions.
