This McDonald’s has been named the most ‘posh’ location IN THE …

Maine[2] is known for many things; beautiful lighthouses, scenic coastline views, savory lobster – and for being home of the ‘poshest’ McDonald’s store in the world.

Located near outlet shops in Freeport, Maine, the restaurant may not have the iconic golden arches out the front – but inside, fast-food fanatics can find the classic Maccas menu.

The Victorian-style mansion built by prominent merchant William Gore in the 1850s – known as Gore House – was transformed into a McDonald’s in January 1984.

In the years since, it has become renowned as a popular attraction during tourist season.

The decision to transform the Gore House left Maine residents divided[3] at first, but the ‘never done before’ restaurant worked out in the end for the state and the fast-food chain.

Since transforming into a McDonald’s, the Gore House restored its interior features by adding mahogany furniture and wall-to-wall carpeting.

The restaurant also added original artwork created by Maine artists.

Other features include a drive-thru, installed in 2000, as well as vintage-styled candle sticks and a fireplace.

The exterior has hardly been touched, but minor improvements have been made over the years to enhance the longevity[4] of the building.

While it is referred to the ‘poshest’ McDonald’s restaurant, it’s also known as Mansion McDonald’s[5] and The McMansion, and was ranked as the number one iconic restaurant by the corporate website in 2019.

The McDonald’s location is one of the only restaurants to serve lobster rolls in the summer, which is a popular order amongst New Englanders.

The sandwich first debuted as a limited time offer in 1993 nationwide, and returned to New England in 2005.

As of 2015, the McLobster sandwich is now in all New England McDonald’s restaurants during the summer.
