Somerset road closed after car crashes into generator

A Somerset road has been closed after a car struck a generator which had become disconnected from the vehicle pulling it. Emergency services were called to the crash on the A39 Bath Road[1] in Stawell just before 1pm today (Friday, November 17).

Heavy traffic[2] has been reported in the area, with Google Maps showing long delays between Bawdrip and Wood Lane, in the roadworks area. Avon and Somerset Police[3] were called to reports of a crash on the A39 at Chilton Polden Hill.

The force said a car had collided with a generator which had disconnected from the vehicle towing it. No injuries have been reported, an Avon and Somerset Police spokesperson added.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We were called shortly after 12.50pm on Friday 17 November to a report of a collision on the A39 at Chilton Polden Hill.

“A car has collided with a generator after it became detached from the vehicle towing the item. We are not aware of any reported injuries. The road has been closed in both directions while the vehicles are recovered and diversions are in place.”

The A39 is closed between the Pig and Wheel Pub and the Stawell turn off, according to traffic monitoring service Inrix. It says: “Congestion to Eastbound from The Murco Station in Bawdrip and Westbound from Moorlinch turn off. In the roadworks area. Affecting traffic between Bawdrip and Ashcott, traffic not helped by the roadworks.”
