Somerset gymnasts to head to World Championships

A team of gymnasts from Somerset has been selected to represent the UK in a world championships. Eight gymnasts from Weston[1] Gymnastics Club in Weston-Super-Mare have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 2023 European Aerobic Championships in Antalya, Turkey.

The competition takes place this week and will see aerobic gymnasts from across Europe take to the competition[2] floor to battle it out to be crowned a European Champion. Heading to Antalya, Turkey will be Lola Lawrence (17), Molly Brown (19), Isabel Worrall (24), Jasmine Dight (16), Katie Ferris (17), Lily Duffy (17), Matilda Belbin (15) and Georgia Piere (17).

Lola Lawrence will be competing in the senior individual women’s competition and will be joined by Molly Brown in the senior group competition along with three gymnasts from other aerobic clubs from across the UK. Lola, Molly, and Isabel Worral will then also compete in the Senior AeroDance competition. Competing in the junior individual women’s competition will be Jasmine Dight.

Jasmine will also be competing in the junior group competition alongside Katie Ferris and Lily Duffy. Jasmine, Katie, Lily, Matilda Belbin and Georgia Piere will then compete in the junior aerodance competition. British Gymnastics CEO Sarah Powell said: “We are thrilled to be sending an experienced, supportive and talented team to the 2023 Aerobic European Championships this year.

“These gymnasts embody the spirit of the British Gymnastics vision, and we hope each athlete enjoys the experience of representing their country doing a sport they love.”
