Popular Chaddesden pub closed for a ‘three to four week …
A popular Derby pub[1] has temporarily shut its doors ahead of scheduled refurbishments. The Wilmot Arms in Chaddesden[2] served its final pint on Sunday (November 5) ahead of the revamp which is due to be completed in “between three and four weeks”.
The pub is under the control of Steamin Billy Brewing Company[3] and the building dates back to the 1700s. The Wilmot Arms is described by Steamin Billy as being one of the brewery’s “drinking pubs” as opposed to their other “eating pubs”.
The pub’s team released a statement ahead of the closure that read: “Builders have been in touch and the refurbishment of the pub has been put back a week. We now close on the evening of November 5 for a 3-4 week refurbishment.” Prior to this statement, the pub already had a closing date in place, but they were able to squeeze in one extra Thursday Night Quiz before the closure.
POLL: Is the government doing enough to help with the cost of living?[4]
Steaming Billy own a collection of pubs across Leicestershire including The Railway (Hinckley), The Cow & Plough (Oadby), The White Bear (Hinckley) and The Horse and Trumpet (Sileby). No exact return date for the pub has been set, however the pub has ensured they will keep customers informed on their Facebook page.[5]
The Wilmot Arms held a closing night on Sunday evening which saw an open mic night, with all the budding locals coming together to celebrate their favourite pub. The Wilmot Arms is also hinting at another open mic night at a different location while they are being refurbished, with more details expected to be announced soon.
