Police make arson arrest as fire rips through home and puts two in …
Police have questioned a man after a fire left two people in hospital. They arrested the suspect of suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life after being called to the fire-hit property on Leamington Gardens, in May Bank[1].
It resulted in a man and woman being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[2]. The alarm was raised just before 4pm on Sunday, November 12.
A Staffordshire Police[3] spokesman said: "A man has been arrested following a bungalow fire. We went to an address on Leamington Gardens with Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service[4] and West Midlands Ambulance Service[5].
"We found a bungalow well-alight and the fire was extinguished by firefighters. A woman, in her 90s, and a man, in his 50s, were taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
"A 33-year-old man, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of attempted arson with intent to endanger life. He has since been released on conditional police bail while our enquiries continue."
Fire crews from Longton and Newcastle were sent to the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A fire service spokesman said: "We found a house well-alight and the fire was extinguished just after 4.30pm using a hose reel jet. A ventilator was also used to clear smoke from the property. We are working with Staffordshire Police to investigate the cause of the fire."
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses. Anyone with any information should call the police on 101, quoting incident number 394 of 12 November or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
