Police issue update on major search for missing woman as divers …

Police have released an update in the search for a "high risk" missing woman. The 55-year-old, named only as Angharad, was reported missing from her home, in the Nantgaredig area of Carmarthenshire, late on Sunday afternoon.

A major search was launched, involving police, a helicopter, the fire service, mountain rescuers and divers. Yesterday Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed they were searching in and along rivers in the Nantgaredig, Pontargothi and Llanfynydd areas, as efforts to find Angharad continue.

A spokesman said: "We are continuing to search for Angharad, aged 55, who was reported missing from her home in the Nantgaredig area late on Sunday afternoon. She is described as a white female, about 5ft 1inches tall, of medium build with brown hair.

"She is believed to be wearing blue jeans, a blue jumper and pink wellingtons. Her family and police are extremely concerned for her whereabouts and she is being treated as a high risk missing person."

Superintendent Ross Evans added: "We are currently conducting a large scale search in and along the rivers in the Nantgaredig, Pontargothi and Llanfynydd areas. We are working closely with other agencies such as the Mountain Rescue Team and the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and a specialist police dive team is also involved in the search.”

Supt Evans also asked family, friends or other members of the community not to put themselves in danger in trying to assist with the search at this time. “I am extremely grateful to everyone who has offered to help in the search for Angharad," he said.

"I am however very concerned that the terrain in the area is challenging. I am therefore asking the public to have confidence in us and our partners in the search whilst utilising trained staff and specialist equipment.

"I can assure the public that everything that can be done is being done and ask that people do not attend the area to assist in the search. We are also supporting Angharad’s family with specially trained officers during this very difficult time.”

Anyone who has seen Angharad, or anyone who has information that could help the search, is asked to report it to Dyfed-Powys Police. Direct message the police on social media[3], email [email protected], or call 101.
