Police issue update after armed police called to village and …

A man arrested in connection with making threats to endanger others[1] in a Leicestershire village has been released. Armed officers were called to Swannington, near Coalville, on Monday, November 20, while neighbours were made to evacuate from their homes.

Leicestershire Police[2] was called to Main Street at 8pm by East Midlands Ambulance Service (Emas) crews, who were concerned about the behaviour of a man inside a property. Officers arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of making threats to commit arson with intent to endanger life.

A force spokeswoman said in an update today, that the man has since been released with no further action.

Fire crews were also called to the scene on Monday night as there were reports that gas could be smelled from within the address[4]. That prompted police to evacuate neighbours for several hours as a “safety precaution”, the force said.

Residents also said there were armed officers at the scene. A cordon was thrown around a stretch of Main Street while the incident was dealt with. Villagers were safely returned to their homes a few hours later that same night.
