Plans for 115 ‘high quality’ homes next to riverside park

More than one hundred houses could be built next to a riverside park in Wirral[1] if new plans are given the go ahead.

The 115 houses would be built off Dock Road North next to the Port Sunlight River Park in Bromborough, if an application by by Asteer Planning LLP is approved. 42 of the houses will be affordable with a mix of two and three bedroom houses.

The development would be built on the banks of the Dibbinsdale Brook and is considered to be previously developed brownfield land. This would mean that if approved, it would contribute to Wirral's housing supply for the next two decades as Wirral Council looked to focus on brownfield development.[2][3]

According to planning application documents, it is "situated in a highly sustainable and accessible location and will make best use of underutilised brownfield land." The documents also said the new streets will prioritise pedestrians and cyclists with key views of the surrounding area.

A planning statement said the scheme is "sensitively designed to integrate with the new developments within the vicinity of the site, positively responding to the character and appearance of the area through the delivery of the new, high-quality residential development.

"The housing mix and house type package reflects the market demands for the local community."

In terms of parking all will have at least one parking space with most having two, three or more and to combat any flooding risk on the site, developers said they plan to raise the whole site by 1m.

Bromborough is one of the key areas Wirral Council is hoping will provide new housing to support its regeneration strategy for eastern Wirral.

Other developments in the area include 124 homes on the other side of the brook, nearly 500 homes on a former Ministry of Defence site and a business park, and a £155m project that would see 1,200 homes built on the banks of the Mersey.[6][7][8]
