North Wales Police warn of latest scam trend affecting pharmacy …

North Wales Police have issued a warning about the latest scam trend to hit the region. Scammers are always looking for new ways to con people into handing over their details.

Now they are targeting pharmacy patients. The scams see them pretend to be from the local chemist confirming a repeat prescription.

They then ask people to provide their details and have used this to steal money from the victims. Cases have so far been detected in Flintshire and Gwynedd.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police[3] said: “Our Economic Crime Unit are warning about a new fraud trend emerging, where patients of North Wales pharmacies are being targeted. Scammers are targeting residents, purporting to be from their local pharmacy or chemist.

“The criminals state that they are calling to confirm a repeat prescription / issue or delivery of medication. The victim is then asked to provide personal information including banking details.

“To date we are aware of reports concerning pharmacies in both Flintshire[4] and Gwynedd[5]. Never give out personal information without confirming the identity of the caller, and if in doubt, end the call and ring your pharmacy using a number you know and trust.”
