Multiple Cardiff city centre roads to be closed on Saturday

Ahead of the Wales v Barbarians rugby match taking place at the Principality stadium, Cardiff[1] Council have released road closures for the city centre. The match starts at 2.30pm on Saturday, November 4, the full city centre road closures will start from 10.30am to 6.30pm.

From 7am Scott Road and Park Street will be closed. Duke Street, Castle St, High Street, St Mary Street, Caroline Street, Wood Street, Central Square, Westgate Street, Quay Street, Guildhall Place, Golate, Park Street, Havelock Street and Scott Road will be completely closed. The following roads will be closed from 10.30am as part of the road closure:

  • Kingsway from its junction with North Road to its junction with Duke Street.
  • Cowbridge Road East from its junction with Cathedral Road to its junction with Westgate Street.
  • Tudor Street from its junction with Clare Road to its junction with Wood Street.
  • Plantagenet Street and Beauchamp Street from their junctions with Despenser Place to their junctions with Tudor Street.
  • Station Terrace and Guildford Street from the junction with Newport[4] Road to the junction with Churchill Way will be access for buses only during the times of the road closures.
  • Additionally, Penarth[5] Road will be closed 30 minutes before the game finishes and up to hour after the final whistle on safety grounds for train passengers arriving and departing from the train station.

Public transport in the city will also be effected. Cardiff bus have posted their alternative routes and stops.

Due to work being done on the South Wales Metro, buses will replace some trains in south Wales this weekend. Buses will replace rail services all day between Pontypridd[8] and Treherbert and between Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Bay[9] (no rail replacement on this route – ticket acceptance has been agreed with Cardiff Bus) on Saturday. Cardiff Queen Street station will close at 3.30pm.

Trains are expected to be busier than usual therefore extra trains will operate from Cardiff Central to Swansea[10], Newport[11], Bristol and London. A queueing system will be in place outside the station to help people board trains safely.
