The Met Office has broken its silence on snow hitting the UK - and says it will fall within DAYS.[1] Snow is now forecast to hit parts of the UK on Saturday - with meteorologists and forecasters at the agency confirming as much in a video circulating on Thursday November 16 (today).

Speaking in a YouTube video today, the Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern said: "For the start of Saturday, we keep the cold conditions at first across parts of Central and Eastern Scotland, so there will be a touch of frost in the northeast of Scotland and some snowflakes over the hills and mountains, as the rain bumps into into that cold air."

Expect a cloudy day to come with the odd spot of rain and drizzle, maybe more persistent for a time in the south, the Met Office forecast says of Thursday "Winds remaining light throughout. Feeling rather cold under persistent grey skies," it adds. On Thursday evening, it says: "This evening rain, heavy at times, will spread eastwards leaving behind clear spells and a few showers by dawn. Feeling cold by morning."

Friday will have a "bright and dry start for many with plenty of autumnal sunshine, though turning hazy through the afternoon. Winds remaining light throughout. Feeling cool." The outlook for the weekend says: "Turning more unsettled through Saturday with rain and strong winds through the morning. Sunny spells returning on Sunday with the risk of blustery showers which will continue into Monday."

Speaking on YouTube, Alex Burkill from the Met Office said: "The weekend will be unsettled - heavy rain and strong winds so make the most of Friday if you can because it'll be a wet and windy picture for many of us. The temperatures peak on Saturday." The weekend video will be published this afternoon.

"Check it out if you have any major plans," Mr Burkill said. Jo Farrow, Netweather forecaster, wrote on the service's blog today: "Gradually as the frontal rain pushes across to the North Sea and over SE Britain in the afternoon, the blustery winds will veer more to the southwest.

"There could be brief glimpses of brightness but overall there will be a lot of cloud post-front, further outbreaks of rain and heavy showers from the west. It is a messy forecast picture for Sunday with variable amounts of cloud, outbreaks of rain and showers in the flow around the low."
